Think: My brother (funny, youngest, mature, “old soul”), my mom (twin, anxious, caring, listener), Meaghan (non judgemental, funny, listener, blunt)
Brainstorm: My brother, going into boston and pretending we are in new york (running joke), my mom, not wanting to be anything like her but currently being exactly like her, meaghan, our weekly-ish trips where we can drive and talk about anything and everything.
Narrow: My mom, how we didn’t always get along now she’s basically my best friend and I’m actually just like her
Structure:
Intro – introduce my mom, use humor and stay relatively light
Body- this is where I could go deeper, explaining why her relationship is important to me and how our relationship has changed
Conclusion- kind of re go over everything I said and wrap things up in a good way that is not boring or stop short
Motion:
- Everyone’s scared of becoming their parents until eventually they realize it’s happening
- For me this is my mom
- Explain how we are similar, looks, anxieties and recently discovered our laughs
- Explain how our relationship was not perfect
- Lots of fighting and butting heads, i was an angsty teen at times
- Was happy to get away for college, however college brought us the closest yet
- Began to tell her everything and she is simply now my best friend
- Very thankful for where we are at and it is no longer something that I take for granted
