Dear Mr Environmental Manager:

Subject: Portland Press Travel Offices – Travel Writer Position advertised in The Maine Times, February 5, 2023.

My name is Madeline McDonald and I have great interest in becoming part of your writing team.

Currently I am a student at the University of New England majoring in Environmental Studies and double minoring in Writing and Communications. These subjects have struck a chord within me and I’ve always had an attraction to the idea of journalism around the world. Currently, I am a writing tutor and I really love it. Working with students on their different projects has helped me learn how to communicate professionally as well as work with others to create the best final product possible. Being enrolled in writing classes has also helped develop my skills and I believe that they would only continue to improve through this job. In my past work experience I’ve been described as flexible and hard working; I know that I could keep up with the work you give me.

Working in something related to the environment would be new to me, and I am eager to present myself for this role. I’ve become very aware of global issues and will listen to all sides of the story in order to develop the best article for your paper. I’m dedicated to raising awareness and helping educate people about the world around them. I’m not sure if public speaking is anyone’s strong suit, however I’ve taken several classes to better myself and prepare for the workplace. Your team at Portland Press is something I’d be more than happy to be a part of and I hope I have stuck out to you as a potential hire.

If you have any questions or concerns I will gladly answer them in a personal interview at your convenience. I can be reached at 617-768-8686. Thank you for taking the time to consider me for this role and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

Madeline McDonald
