Reflection

Yesterday Mya, Luke and I filmed our final project for journalism. The approach we took to this project was each of us being/talking about a different aspect of journalism. As we spoke we included how we each have worked with our chosen aspect and also how we have learned to do it better. My topic was interviewing which I was happy to talk about because as I mentioned in my last reflection, interviewing was something that was pretty new to me. The three of us work well together as a group and I’d say we each can carry our share of the work. Overall this class was different than I expected but I also don’t really know what I was expecting. In my first blog proj post I wrote that journalism could be as simple as just writing in a diary, which maybe it can be but I’ve also learned that it can go a lot deeper than that. There are so many different levels of journalism and so many different approaches one can take. Even watching that documentary the other day got my gears turning (ignore that cliche phrase). I’d kind of been almost ignorant to the side of journalism that involves putting your life on the line. It was eye opening to see the behind the scenes of the stories that are all over the internet and news. Journalists put in a lot more work than maybe they get credit for and although I think that the process of gathering information is very interesting, it’s not always easy. I know I’ve drifted a little from the topic of our project, so to wrap things up I will say that I think me and my writing have grown a lot from this class. Writing really is something that has my interest so I’m excited to keep taking some classes along these lines, I’ve really enjoyed it!
