Journal 8:
Today I received feedback for my feature and I’m very appreciative of all that I received. I was very concerned about my piece being too casual, and I had even emailed it to Jesse the day before he sent it out to the class so that he could check it a little. After getting a little help from him, he sent it out and I received a lot of positive comments nonetheless which was very nice to hear. Some constructive criticism I was given was to break up my paragraphs a little. This was a big one for me (and hypothetically an issue that I have again in the future) because breaking them up helps my piece read less like an essay. There were also some grammar and bias issues that I tried to take care of as well. For example saying things like “I” and “us”. Those words cause bias and writing and after being made aware of this in my own writing I am now able to find it in others. As usual, the feedback was very helpful and even though it’s a little nerve wracking to have an entire class focus on your work, it is definitely beneficial. The students in our class are very good about listening and actually helping, instead of zoning off or not paying attention. This is a very positive thing because it’s nice when everyone can work together to help out another student.
