Ranked-heartbreak-relationships-student-archetypes
This first article I chose is a somewhat lighthearted one about which NYU students are going to break your heart. It was written by Ary Russell on March 23rd 2022. You can tell that the tone of the article is light right away based on the use of the phrase “hot girl summer” that is in the first sentence. I thought this article was entertaining to read as it gave five oddly specific types of people that will break your heart. The types including but not are probably not limited to; the extremely burnt out club promoter, the woke bleached eyebrow leftist activist, the enlightened study away long distance girlfriend, the daddy’s money stern finance bro, and last but not least the dickies wearing tisch photography student. In each category there is a little summary of the traits of these people and why they would break your heart. I really liked reading this article and it made me laugh a little at finding which traits belong to me or people I know.
Black-caribbean-southern-beauty-standards
This second article for the week is definitely a little deeper of a topic. It is about struggling with beauty standards as an african american and it was written by Maia-Olivia McDonald. I feel like this topic is one that would draw women in (exhibit A seen as I did choose it) because it is something that most women can relate too. The article talks about how women are put on a pedestal and how it’s even harder for women of color because the stereotypical beauty standard is usually skinny, blond and with blue eyes. It also talks about how the social media that this generation is/has grown up with makes it worse because there are so many people on the internet to compare themselves too. The writer even shares her own stories of watching videos on how to make her skin lighter and how she would pray to wake up skinny or white. She brings up how there is so much beauty and depth to all of these different cultures but nonetheless it is so hard to be different sometimes.
