Journal #12

Journal #12: Right off the bat I think it’s cool how Alan Richman gets to interview Robert DeNiro. I’m a fan of his so it would be exciting to get to talk to him. He was very challenged with writing a profile about him because DeNiro was someone who did not like to be interviewed, which shows that profiling is not always going to be easy. On page 326 it talks about how to plan for a profile and kind of the questions you should ask yourself beforehand. I personally felt as though I did a pretty good job thinking about the people I would interview, I was asking myself questions along these lines. I didn’t really realize how many different ways there are to do a profile piece as the book talks about versions like micro and snapshot. Micro being something such as the six word story or having 140 characters in a tweet. Snapshot being when you take a lot of detail but then choose to only show some of it (I think). Another thing I found interesting was the topic of obituaries. I’ve always known they existed but I’ve never really thought about who wrote them. I don’t know if this sounds really morbid but I think that it would be a really cool job to write them. It could include getting to know the deceased person’s family and friends and finding out cool details about their lives.
