This first article is kind of a continuation of the ones I’ve been doing. It is about how even with the new security measures installed, students still don’t feel safe around campus and it was written by Lauren Ashe. In regards to past assaults, campus security has added lights near some of the buildings, added nine security cameras and has four to eight patrols on duty every day. One of the students who was assaulted spoke up and is unsure if these new measures are going to stop the crime on campus. Although it may help, he says the crimes may never completely stop. An anonymous student believes that increasing the number of officers is not going to fix the problem, they were more concerned about the lack of communication that goes on between the campus safety officers. They don’t have the best record of reporting these incidents. One man was accused of attacking seven asian women and because of this the department is acting under an anti asian bigotry.

Cheap-staycations-amazing-spring-break-nyc

As spring break approaches a lot of us students are broke. This article is about spring break staycation that won’t break the bank and it was written by Tristán Queriot Rodríguez Vélez. For NYU, this is the first spring break they have had in two years. Velez suggests some local places that students can visit if they won’t be making the typical trip to Florida or Cancun. This article is in the format of a travel guide and I think it very strongly appeals to its audience (broke college students) who are probably all looking for things to do. He mentions four places, Beacon, Woodstock, Rockaway Beach and City Island. While all of these places all fall under the same category of a getaway area, he does a good job supplying information for each location. Within each mini description he includes cost, little things to do once you’re there and a little background of the location itself. This article helps people see that there are plenty of things to do over break if you can’t go somewhere “luxurious”.
