Security-hours-cut-leaving-nyu-buildings-unguarded

This first article is about how buildings are being left unguarded due to a lack of security guards on campus. It was written by Carmo Moniz on February 24th. The reason for being this short staffed is budget restraints on the department. According to the building administrator there is a shortage of about 8 million dollars that they need for the overtime officers. There are eight buildings that are affected by this and people are worried about trespassing and COVID-19 rules. A concern is that outside people not associated with the school could just come in following the professors or something. University spokesperson John Beckman said that to avoid this happening they have security cameras. Still this is a very big issue and it’s affecting the other staff because one time the building administrator, who is not a campus employee, had to cover the security desk. That is a stressful role to put on someone and it should not become a habit. The article also includes pictures of the buildings that are being affected.

Rom-com-revival

This next article is about romantic comedies making a comeback, which I personally think they should. This lighthearted story was written by Sunny Sequeira. She starts the article by mentioning some of the classic rom coms, but claims that recently they haven’t been making them the way they used to. It seems that romantic comedies have been pushed to the side to make room for the big hollywood blockbusters, but the people want the rom coms back! They are such a pleasant watch and even if the romance part is a little far fetched, usually the story is just two ordinary people going about their lives and falling in love. She brings up the fact that if romantic comedies make a comeback, they should become a little bit more diverse. Instead of always having two white straight people as the leads they could include more people of color who have varying romantic interests. Overall, the vibe of romantic comedies is needed now more than ever and so let’s bring them back.
