Rory-meyers-nurses-mental-health

This piece about nurses insomnia and anxiety being linked to the pandemic was written by Maria Freyre on February 11th. This article was written as a way to raise awareness for the nurses and offer forms of support during these stressful times. The writer interviewed nurses from 18 different states and the results of what they found out were shocking. They found that 22% of nurses suffered from depressive symptoms, 52% from anxiety and 55% from insomnia. The blame behind these statistics could be the sudden sleep disturbances, caused by changing schedules constantly and also being overworked without proper breaks. Working through this pandemic has taken an extreme mental toll on these nurses and it was mentioned that a lot of them became emotional while being interviewed. After conducting these studies, postdoctoral research fellow Lauren Ghazel worked to create a self care routine to help these nurses combat their stress and anxiety.
