In the article The Limits of Friendship, Maria Konnikova informs readers about the Dunbar Number, or average number of friends that a human can maintain real relationships with. Her research of the Dunbar Number continues into showing us that the effect of social media on relationships may become a problem in the future, and anthropologist/psychologist Robin Dunbar agrees when he says “it is quite conceivable that we might end up less social in the future, which would be a disaster because we need to be more social.” By making this comment, Dunbar urges us to continue to have face to face interactions and wants us to realize how important physical relationships are. I would agree with Dunbar that the internet is going to mess up how we interact with each other because social media has a big influence on most of us, more sometimes than I think we even realize. Overall, then, I believe Dunbar and his important point to keep maintaining our personal relationships with our ‘dunbar number groups’
